Samsung has gained some experience with smart wear. For example, the Samsung Smart Suit was introduced last year, a smart skating suit with which the Dutch short trackers could train for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The Korean manufacturer also occasionally requests patents for smart clothing. For example, last month, we reported on Samsung smart shoes; these smart shoes give athletes real-time feedback on their training performance. This time LetsGoDigital has a patent on the spur of a Samsung smart shirt. This smart clothing is specially designed to check the functioning of the lungs and then give appropriate advice.

Samsung smart shirt with health functions

In 2017 Samsung Electronics applied for a patent at the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) for an ‘Electronic apparatus and method of controlling the same. The patent was approved on January 24, 2019, and describes a Samsung smart shirt with sensors that can diagnose your physical condition.

The smart shirt of Samsung is equipped with different sensors that can detect the lung sounds of a user. In this way, respiratory and respiratory diseases can be diagnosed. Also, the frequency and the strength of the breath can be measured.

To determine the correct diagnosis, the age, gender and length of the user are also taken into account. Your medical history can also determine your diagnosis. Samsung smart shirt is connected to a smartphone, so the user can immediately read the diagnosis on the screen.

A large number of different diagnoses can be made, such as pneumonia or bronchitis, but also chronic lung diseases such as asthma and COPD are recognized by the Samsung smart shirt. Then, based on the result, a piece of advice is given, varying from preventive to emergency measures.

The sensors can, of course, be integrated into other types of clothing, such as a sweater or a t-shirt, and shirts.

Areas of application of smart clothing with sensors

Whether and when Samsung will put such smart clothing on the market is as yet unknown. The applications are, in any case, endless. Consider, for example, a professional footballer who is on the sports field, where the lung function can be monitored in real-time.

But also for a sick baby or child, this technological solution can offer a solution. Certainly, when it comes to a chronic illness, doctor visits take a lot of time and tension. If you can easily make a long scan at home, that is a big win. Obviously, the smart shirt must be made a size smaller for this group of users.
