Opera announced on Wednesday that it has teamed up with European Bitcoin exchange Safello in order to allow it’s Android users can now buy the Ethereum cryptocurrency directly from its web browsers in less than a minute.
Although Ethereum is not all that well known as Bitcoin, it certainly has advantageous aspect-fast processing of transfers, which is quite convenient for mainstream use.
We think that the next important phase for crypto will come from usage and that for it to reach wider adoption, it has to be easy to buy and easy to use… We believe that the browser will be the entry point for these use cases. Thanks to our partnership with Safello, we are taking one more step towards this vision. – Charles Hamel, Product Lead for Crypto at Opera
The new feature would provide cash-to-crypto exchange and payment can be made with credit and debit cards, along with “trusted” payment networks including Swish in Sweden. This feature is currently available only in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Users in other countries can test it by downloading the Opera browser beta from the Google Play Store.
Moreover, users in Sweden will get a discounted fee of 2.5 percent from Safello for a limited time, while Norway and Denmark users will receive a discounted fee of 5 percent.
Safello is registered with Sweden’s Financial Supervisory Authority and will verify users who make purchases using Sweden’s BankID and Denmark’s NemID citizens’ identity solutions.
