Bitmain Technologies Limited announced today their next-generation 7nm ASIC chip which is referred to as BM1397. Bitmain is one of the leading industries in the production of integrated circuits for cryptocurrency mining. Bitmain has been able to cross a new boundary and go beyond its own limitations with the latest chip, which comes with a variety of new feats in performance, chip area, and energy efficiency for mining cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
Compared to Bitmain’s 7nm chip, the BM1391, the BM1397 proved itself to be better in more than one aspect of its functions and features. For example, the new BM1397 chip is 28.6 percent more power-efficient than its predecessor, the BM1391. This means that the BM1397 can offer an energy consumption to computing ratio as low as 30J/TH.
The efficiency of the BM1397 does not end there. It also requires a lower power than the previous model. In order to be able to do this, the entire architecture of the chip had to be altered and evolved. Bitmain’s engineering team has thoroughly customized the chip design to optimize its architecture, circuit, and economics. The fact that Bitmain has been able to design and push out an evolved chip proves that they have come a long way in chip designing methodology, and they now have acquired a deep understanding of the most advanced semiconductor fabrication technologies.
Bitmain has been solely committed to the development of high-performance computing chips, and so far, they have not disappointed anyone. The new chip, the BM1397, will hopefully give the miners better mining experiences, and it aims at setting a new benchmark for ASIC chip technology. TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process is used for the making of this chip, and the new chip will be featured in the new Antminer models, the S17 and T17, which is to be announced later by Bitmain.
