At the MWC event, Smart and Augmented Reality glass developer Vuzix launched its new enterprise smart glasses, the M400. The M400 is amongst the first to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 platform, which will take advantage of the power-efficient XR1 and its AR-specific features, such as an embedded AI engine for crunching tasks like object recognition, voice commands, motion tracking, and head tracking.

The Snapdragon XR1 debuted in May 2018, and from its ground, it was up for AR and VR headsets. It seems like Qualcomm is rooting for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) for some incredible reasons. Vuzix has vast experience when it comes to wearable devices and also in leveraging the capabilities of the XR1, which were just what it needed to accelerate the adoption of its wearables in the enterprise sector.

According to Vuzix, it will run on the latest version of Android when it launches later this year and offers USB-C connectivity. Vuzix president and CEO Paul Travers also said that the M400 would offer a multi-touch pad, built-in GPS, and better noise canceling than the AR glasses that came before it. The M400 with the XR 1 processor is, by almost every measure, an order of magnitude faster than current solutions on the market. The performance improvements and the intensive applications power consumption are expected to also be much less.

Vuzix expects the next-generation smart glasses to enter volume production this summer, with pricing and other details following in the spring.
