Sony today announced a series of new Xperia phones on the opening day of MWC 2019. The Xperia 1 is the new top model, and this smartphone replaces the XZ3 launched last year. The new phone has a remarkable design; for the first time, Sony applied a 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR OLED screen. This makes it an exceptionally long device, where you have an extra large screen surface at your disposal.

Large screen with cinema ratio

The Sony Xperia 1 is equipped with a 6.5-inch display. The 21: 9 ratio provides the same aspect ratio as a cinema screen. The 4K resolution provides extra detail, while HDR contributes to extra contrasty and clear images. Thanks to the application of Corning Gorilla Glass 6, the smartphone is also optimally protected against scratches and bumps.

Sony has built-in Multi-window functionality. Via the sidebar, you can easily choose to use two apps together. Xperia 1 is also very suitable for multitasking. The phone runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system.

The rear houses a camera system with three lenses. There is a 16mm wide-angle lens, 26mm standard lens, and a 52mm telephoto lens with 2x zoom built-in. As we are used to Sony digital cameras, the new Xperia smartphone is equipped with fast Eye AF and advanced AF / AE tracking technology, up to 10 frames per second. Also, the phone offers RAW noise reduction.

There is a special CinemaPro mode built-in to capture 21: 9 movie recordings. Besides, the new Sony phone features Dolby Atmos for multi-dimensional sound from above and around.

Furthermore, the Sony Xperia 1 features a Game enhancer mode to improve your game performance. It is also easy to take a screenshot or a video recording while playing a mobile game. Sony’s new flagship is also powered by the powerful Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB of RAM.

The battery offers a capacity of 3300 mAh. Thanks to Smart Stamina technology, you can easily see how long your phone will last, and the energy consumption will be adjusted accordingly so that you can put the device on the charger in time.

Where can you buy this Sony phone?

You can buy the Sony Xperia 1 in four different colors; black, purple, white, and gray. The phone will be released in the second quarter of 2019. The price is fixed at € 950, including VAT. This is the price for a separate device without a telephone subscription.

Sony has not yet announced about how much storage memory the device will have. It seems that this information is deliberately omitted. This could indicate that it is ‘only’ 64GB, instead of 128GB, as we see with most of the top smartphones of 2019. However, the press release stated that you can use a microSD card of 512GB.
