Xiaomi foldable phone to have the lowest price in the foldable device’s market

Xiaomi Foldable Phone

A the beginning of this year, Xiaomi’s YouTube video was surfaced online in which Lin Bin, co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi showed the first foldable smartphone brand. The prototype looked very stylish, and the software and operation seemed to be well developed. Both the operation and the folding mechanism worked very smoothly. Nevertheless, it was still completely unknown when the first foldable phone from Xiaomi would be officially introduced.

Xiaomi foldable telephone with a dual folding screen

A few weeks later, LetsGoDigital found the Chinese manufacturer willing to comment on the Xiaomi foldable smartphone under development. Xiaomi has confirmed to LetsGoDigital that the phone is currently in the lab, where various tests are being conducted. The aim is to produce a telephone that provides the best possible user experience. At the time of writing this article (Feb 2019), only a handful of prototypes were available.

The design, folding mechanism and the MIUI user interface adjustments were developed by Xiaomi itself. The flexible folding screen was developed in collaboration with a partner. At the time, the company did not want to mention a name yet, but LetsGoDigital since discovered that Visionox is the company.

In contrast to the foldable phones from Samsung and Huawei, the Xiaomi model has a double fold line. You can bend the two sides of the screen, after which the display curves around the housing. The display is on the outside and is folded around the housing and closes in the middle on the back. Once folded, the entire telephone, therefore, consists of a screen, both the front and back.

The design looked so advanced that many people assumed that the foldable smartphone from Xiaomi could get a higher price than the Huawei Mate X and the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The two latter devices have now been officially introduced and the suggested retail price is not bad.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be available in Europe from the beginning of May for around € 2000. The price of the Huawei Mate X is completely shocking, this 5G phone will get a sale price of no less than € 2300 and will be available from mid-year.

Price and availability

Recently, the Indian website iGyaan reported that the Xiaomi foldable phone is considerably cheaper than all foldable smartphones that have been introduced to date. Yes indeed, even cheaper than the Royole Flexpai that was launched at the end of last year.

In addition, the site reported that Xiaomi intends to introduce its folding phone between the end of April and the beginning of June. A special event is being organized in the home country of China. It is still unclear when you can buy the foldable smartphone, but it would be a worldwide launch event. The mobile phone is probably named Xiaomi Dual Flex or MIX Flex, or the device is placed within the high-end Mi series is still unknown.

Xiaomi would be planning to sell the smartphone in Europe for € 999. A price of $ 999 is then applied in America. If it really turns out that the Chinese manufacturer is putting its first folding phone on the market for this amount, it will mean a real price breakthrough.

Finally, the Xiaomi foldable phone would become a direct competitor for other high-end smartphone models from Samsung, Apple and Huawei.

The Huawei P30 will be presented later today. A new notebook is launched in Xiaomi’s event held today named the Mi Notebook Air. Last week the Chinese manufacturer announced Black Shark gaming phone.
