Huawei along with its business partners of VR OpenLab like NVIDIA, Cyber Cloud, BOE, Letin VR, Pico, Skyworth VR, iQIY, DVPR, and Growlibtook at the 16th Huawei Global Analyst Summit (HAS) is going to launch the Dual-G Cloud VR Initiative. As a part of the initiative, Huawei’s iLab and X Labs will become incubation centres for content, platform, chip, and screen vendors, and terminal service provider based collaborations to allow participants to build Gigaband and 5G Cloud VR business solutions; besides exploring related gigabit home broadband and 5G opportunities. The Dual-G Cloud VR intends to bring about innovation in the industry and accelerate the large-scale commercial use of Cloud VR.

The global VR/AR industry is a rapidly developing one, which has led to consistent innovation in the ICT sector. IDC’s forecast suggests that the global AR/VR market space can be expected to exceed US$ 20.4 billion in 2019, with the compound annual growth rate remaining constant at 69.6% for the three following years. Cloud VR seems to be the optimal channel when it comes to popularizing VR, and as such it has captured the attention of the industry. The VR OpenLab cooperation plan was officially launched by Huawei and its partners at the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum 2017 with the idea to promote the Cloud VR industry, incubate business scenarios, boost technological innovation, and build a Cloud VR ecosystem altogether. And it has been delivering on many promises in the months following the launch, as a result of its innovative practices.

Richard Jin, President, Huawei Transmission & Access Product Line, had the following to say about the current success of Cloud VR:

With joint promotion by industry partners and global operators, the Cloud VR industry is booming. Thanks to the extensive collaboration of all parties in the industry chain, Cloud VR has metamorphosed from concepts into real business applications. – Richard Jin

Coming to Dual-G Cloud VR, the initiative will open up the iLab and X Labs for innovation projects, with Huawei working incessantly with VR OpenLab partners to collaborate to innovate Cloud VR business scenarios in three fields – the B2B, the B2H, and the B2C.

The B2B field will feature focus on incubating business in vertical industries like movies, healthcare, and education, to enable the digital transformation of enterprises using VR. In the B2H field, the scale effect of IPTV will determine focus on interactive scenarios including education, webcasting, and home cinema to speed up the process of making VR a part of everyday households. The B2C field, for its part, will use 5G networks, to focus on lightweight interaction scenarios like social networking, to allow individual users to indulge in a premium VR experience. As it stands now, 8K advanced VR products, including the Skyworth’s 8K hardware decoding Cloud VR all-in-one headset and iQIY’s software decoding 8K Cloud VR all-in-one headset are featuring support for Gigaband and 5G Cloud VR architecture.

Mr. Jin has gone on to comment regarding the latest initiative,

As a key part of the industry chain, Huawei will adhere to the concept of “Huawei Inside”, fully leverage the platform capabilities of “connectivity + intelligence + cloud”, provide basic capability support, and work with partners to build Gigaband and 5G Cloud VR business solutions to promote the Cloud VR industry. – Mr. Jin

The VR OpenLab industry plan constitutes that all parties involved in the VR industry chain, which includes telecom operators, shall come together to work on content distribution, bearer network provision, and business modeling with a goal to develop 100,000 Cloud VR customers this year while embracing the $100 billion VR industry.
