3D photos have been embraced willingly by Facebook users, and now, to enrich the user experience, the social media giant has decided to enhance the same with some new and exciting features for mobile, web, as well as VR.
In the first place, Facebook users will now be able to share 3D photos on their stories, which, before now, they could only post on their News Feed. But, with the new feature, all a user has to do is click on the share button and choose if between the options ‘News Feed’ and ‘Your Story’ to successfully post the photos as stories. Following this, a user will be able to see who viewed, reacted to, and responded to the story, which shall automatically expire after 24 hours.
Facebook has also decided to streamline the web photo creation process using a computer or Apple iPhone dual cameras. The process of original art creation on web hitherto involved yoking together multiple processes to bring to life 3D scenarios with a focus on depth and movement. With the new feature, users will have to follow the next few steps to easily create custom art or images not taken in Portrait mode, and review or publish them through www flow:
1. Two files, an image, and a depth map are required to make the feature work, and the image can be in .png or .jpg format.
2. File names are crucial in this situation, and users should make sure that depth files have _depth appended to the file name. For example, one can name the two files using this flow as ‘myImag_.png + myImage_depth.png.’
3. The depth map and the image must have a matching aspect ratio, but not necessarily the same resolution.
4. Finally, to create a 3D photo from the web, one has to drag an image and its depth map to drop them together in the composer.
So far as creating and sharing 3D photos on Android is concerned, Facebook is all ready to roll out associated features by the next month, with the first models to get the feature being Samsung Galaxy devices with dual cameras or Portrait mode, like Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy Fold.
