Samsung Galaxy Fold the foldable phone launch postponed

Must Read

Last week the several analysts have found that the Galaxy Fold foldable phone units stopped working for some reason, as we reported earlier. Although the defects varied, all complaints had to do with the new flexible, flexible screen.

Research into the flexible screen of Galaxy Fold

Samsung soon came up with an official response, stating that “all devices would be thoroughly inspected to determine the cause.” Samsung did not see a reason to postpone the launch at that time. The company has now come back to this by means of a press release, which states, among other things:

Launch of Samsung’s folding phone postponed

It is to be praised that Samsung chooses to postpone the launch. The Galaxy Fold is a wonderful product, also very innovative. It would be a huge shame if this important technological development was overshadowed by negative reports about some broken screens.

Moreover, the company simply cannot afford it. The massive recovery of all Galaxy Note 7 devices a few years ago was of course already a terrible debacle. The Korean manufacturer subsequently succeeded in regaining the trust of its customers by, among other things, conducting extensive battery tests and giving them openness.

With the Galaxy Fold, however, it is a bit more complicated. The Fold does not stand on its own but must represent a new generation of mobile devices. Samsung’s first foldable smartphone will still be too expensive for many, but it should evoke a sense of; ‘I want that too’.

If the news coverage becomes too negative, the desire will decrease, which may lead to a stagnation in the development of future foldable telephone models. The company probably also has a clamshell model in development, and last week it was announced that Samsung Display is currently developing a flexible screen that can fold twice. It is expected that it will take another year before a Galaxy Fold 2 is released. First, launch the Fold.

For the time being, however, little is going on. Samsung was among the first to present its foldable phone. The Huawei Mate X, which was introduced almost simultaneously, is not yet available. The release of this folding phone is planned for the summer. So the Koreans still have time to find out what exactly is going on, and then to be the first (after Royole) to put a foldable smartphone on the market.

Price & availability

In the Netherlands, the device will cost € 2020, for this you receive 12GB RAM and 512GB memory. Consumers can buy the Galaxy Fold in four colors; Space Silver, Cosmos Black, Martian Green, and Astro Blue. The pre-order period would start later this week, but will now be suspended for a few weeks.

€ 2020 is, of course, a considerable amount, but to be honest, you will also receive a special device in return – if the foldable smartphone/tablet works properly of course. Samsung will undoubtedly do everything to find out the problems, the time will tell if this is sufficient. We will keep you informed when the device is actually expected.
