Apple has just taken its first step to start competing in the television content sector with companies like Netflix, HBO, Amazon or Disney. A software update yesterday put the new Apple TV application within reach of hundreds of millions of users of the Apple company in over a hundred countries. Simultaneously, the Samsung Smart TVs of 2018 and 2019 will have this app and offer support for AirPlay 2 so they can play the contents of iPhones and iPads wirelessly. Other TV brands, such as LG and Sony will also have the application in a few months.

The Apple TV app brings together the most popular series and movies from Apple TV channels, iTunes and more than 150 video apps. Much of that content is paid, but from fall will be launched, the new Apple TV+. The subscription video service that Apple announced in March and for which it is producing a number of series by major names of cinema and television, such as Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams, and Oprah Winfrey.

The Californian company emphasizes that from now on “users from all over the world will also find personalized recommendations of series and films of more than 150 video apps and streaming services and more than 100,000 movies and iTunes programs, including the most important collection of titles in 4K HDR to see or rent “. The software update has also reached the Apple TV device (tvOS) to unify the entire offer.

On the other hand, AirPlay 2 will allow us to transmit content from our iPhone, iPad, and Mac, directly to the TV. This function is very useful if we want to share the screen to see photos or videos. Which models are compatible? Here is the list with some of the TVs that support both AirPlay 2 and Apple TV.

  • Samsung FHD / H Series 4, 5 (2018).
  • Samsung QLED 4K series P6, P7, P8, P9 (2018 and 2019).
  • Samsung QLED 8K series Q9 (2019).
  • Samsung The Frame (2018 and 2019).
  • Samsung The serif (2019).
  • Samsung UHD 6, 7, 8 Series (2018 and 2019).

These features are already available. You will see them appear on your TV automatically. Of course, make sure you do not have any updates pending since the latest version of your Smart TV will be necessary. If it is updated and still does not appear, do not worry, it could take a few days to arrive.
