Huami Technology is the exclusive provider of ‘wearables’ devices for Xiaomi, as well as the architects of the Mi Band. Alongside on the day of the presentation for the new Mi Band 4, the company also launched its renewal of the most classic smartwatch, aka the predecessor Amazfit SmartWatch. The new Xiaomi Huami Amazfit Smartwatch 2 is one of the most complete smartwatches of the brand to date, although as is usual in the manufacturer is still betting on a price content that is attractive for those looking for a wearable without investing a large amount of money.

In addition to improving the design, the screen, and internal features in this model, an ECG electrocardiogram has also been added to help monitor heart activity and attempt to assimilate, at least in this regard, with the latest smartwatch from Apple.

The new Huami Amazfit SmartWatch 2 incorporates a 1.99- inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, which generates a density of 326 dpi. In addition to improving the resolution, a 2.5D screen design has also been added to make this panel better integrated into the watch. What together with the resistance IP68 and a microcrystalline ceramic zirconium body, we have a smartwatch with a look and theoretically a high-level construction.

Inside the Xiaomi Amazfit Smartwatch 2, it has a Snapdragon Wear 2500 processor. It is a Qualcomm specialized chipset for wearables, however, it is not the latest available. In the previous days, Huami had promoted in social networks a message that hinted that the Snapdragon Wear 3100 would be added, but finally, it has not been like that. At least not in the versions that have been announced today.

In one of the versions of this Amazfit Smartwatch 2, which would be equivalent to the Amazfit Verge 2, the Huangshan No. 1 chip has been added, a dedicated processor for artificial intelligence and the one in charge of managing the monitoring of several of its sensors. Additionally, 512MB of RAM memory and 4GB eMMC storage are added.

For the battery, it packs a 420 mAh capacity cell, which promises an autonomy of 28 hours with intensive use. The device also comes with NFC to support payments, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS to record different activities such as running, walking, cycling, playing soccer or mountaineering.

In the software, the Xiaomi watch incorporates Amazfit OS, compatible with Android and iOS phones and with multiple applications. Of course, being for the moment focused on the Asian market, we do not have international services that we do find in Android Wear.

But where further progress is in this Amazfit Verge 2 is the incorporation of the ability to perform the Apple Watch 4 style electrocardiograms. It is a special version that not only allows monitoring the heart rate for 24 hours, it also incorporates the ECG and PPG functions to detect possible arrhythmias in real-time. Very interesting for people with atrial fibrillation. Huami explains that the watch can store up to 60 minutes of ECG data locally and store it for 7 days on the device.

Regarding connectivity, it must be said that the Verge 2 comes with Wi-Fi b / g / n, A-GPS and Bluetooth 4.2, but a special version also incorporates an NFC module for wireless payments. Of course, it is not clear if this version with NFC can work to make payments internationally or only at the level of China.

The new Huami Amazfit Smartwatch 2 is available in several editions and the basic model will come to a price of 999 Yuan. A limited edition of The Avengers has also been presented with a modified band. Of this, only 5,000 units will be manufactured and its price will be 1499 Yuan. Slightly lower in price than the Amazfit Verge 2 with ECG, which comes for 1299 Yuan.
