There have been rumors about a new Xbox and PS5 console for a long time. Although Sony released information about the new functionalities some time ago, it remained remarkably quiet from the Microsoft side. Until last week the E3 broke suspense in Los Angeles. Here the American manufacturer announced that Xbox Project Scarlett will be launched before Christmas 2020, together with the new game Halo Infinite.

Xbox Two Project Scarlett becomes 4x more powerful

For the sake of convenience, we assume that the new game console will be named Xbox Two. However, little is known about the name, except that Microsoft is developing the console under the name ‘Project Scarlett’.

During E3, the boss of Xbox, Phil Spencer, revealed that the new processor is no less than 4x more powerful than that of the Xbox One X, which is currently still the world’s fastest game console.

Just like Sony, Microsoft also turned to AMD for a custom-made chip. The new Xbox will use a modified AMD Zen-2 CPU and a Radeon Navi GPU with GDDR6. Which of the two consoles will ultimately be the most powerful is not yet entirely clear.

Nevertheless, we see a lot of similarities with the expected Sony PlayStation 5. For example, the Xbox Two will also have an SSD, which contributes to significantly faster loading times. The updated game console will also offer support for 8K games, 120fps, and ray tracing. In addition, the game console from Microsoft backward will be compatible with all previously released Xbox variants.

Halo Infinite will be the first game title to be released on the new game console. During E3, Microsoft showed a trailer for the highly anticipated Halo game.

It remains to be seen which of the two consoles will appear first; the Xbox Two or the Sony PS5. Both are expected at the end of 2020. Nintendo will probably also release a Switch 2 before that time. The Japanese game manufacturer is working on two models; a cheap handheld Switch and a successor to the current Switch.
