WhatsApp will stop working on these phones as of July 1

Jun 24, 2019, 1:15 pm

WhatsApp is the most popular application in the world as used by more than 1,500 million users. However, July 1 is a date marked in red in the calendar since from that day, you can not create new accounts or verify existing ones in both iOS and Android, in addition to Windows Phone.

Although it will work on phones with this operating system until December 31 of this year, it will not be possible to download it from the application store as of July 1.

The company has announced in its FAQ page that WhatsApp users “probably” will not be able to download from July 1 on Microsoft phones that have Windows operating system, while the service will stop working on these phones next December 31.

But it will not be the only one since the iOS and Android mobiles will also be affected. Thus, users who use OS versions prior to iOS 7 and Android Gingerbread 2.3.7 will not be able to create new accounts or verify existing ones, although they will be able to use the application until February 1, 2020.

In this way, the app will be compatible with Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 or later, iOS 8 or later and some smartphones with KaiOS operating system 2.5.1 or later, such as JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

WhatsApp joins other services of the company such as Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram that last April 30 stopped working on phones with Windows Phone as an operating system.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 was introduced in 2011. Google itself abandoned the support for Ice Cream Sandwich at the beginning of this year, so it is more than likely that if your device is less than six years old.

To check the operating system version that your mobile account has, you can go to the Settings of your phone. Depending on what you use, the route will vary slightly, so you can enter the word “Android” in the Settings browser and click on the About Phone section to know more about your smartphone.
