G Nest is known for its smart home appliances, such as the smart video doorbell or the smart thermostat. Although the products still only show ‘Nest’, the company was already taken over by Google in 2014. In May this year, the search engine giant announced during Google I/O that Nest and Google Home will be merged into Google Nest. Last month the Nest website was also taken offline. The products can now be purchased via the Google Store, as stated on the site.

Although the official name has become Google Nest, the company also seems to want to opt for a simplified name. On June 28, 2019, Google LLC submitted a trademark for the name G Nest.

The application was filed with the IPO (Intellectual Property Office) in the United Kingdom. The trademark has been filed by Fieldfisher from London, England. This company specializes in trademarks and therefore has many international customers. Fieldfisher also regularly handles the applications from Samsung. In addition to the name, a logo was also deposited, on which the characteristic ‘G’ of Google can be seen, Nest is listed directly below.

A day earlier the same trademark was also registered with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). This time the application was submitted by Grünecker Patent & Rechtsanwälte from Munich, Germany. Here too a corresponding logo has been deposited, this time the G is not situated above Nest, but before it.

Both applications are categorized as Class 9/37/38/42, with a detailed description in which all kinds of smart home products are mentioned and associated services and software.

The name G Nest fits well within the Google portfolio. The company also carries the name G Suite, previously better known as ‘Google Apps for work’ and ‘Google App for your domain’. G Suite includes cloud services such as Gmail, Hangouts, documents and the calendar. In addition, Google uses the name G Cam, a camera application for Android smartphones.

The Nest Hub Max was also announced during Google I / O. Although this smart screen with the camera is not yet coming to the Netherlands, the Nest Hub will be released in our country. This is a smart speaker with a screen. This device was previously announced under the name Home Hub; now that Google Home is about to expire, this speaker goes through life under the name Nest Hub.

Recently the company has also patented a very special Google foldable smartphone with a traditional book form. The device consists of several OLED display pages, which you can turn over. If this product is ever brought to market, it will no doubt be compatible with the G Nest smart home products.
