Xiaomi prepares a periscope camera with two lenses

Xiaomi Periscope Camera

Xiaomi has taken the step to launch a mobile with an all-screen display and front periscopic camera, and it seems that the intention of the Chinese manufacturer is to maximize everything possible that module with the selfie camera. And Xiaomi has patented the periscope camera with two lenses.

Xiaomi is one of the manufacturers, along with others like Oppo or Samsung, who are developing technology to include the front camera under the screen. Oppo has already taken the step showing how the technology will work, but it seems that the design of periscopic modules in Xiaomi still has a way ahead.

The Chinese company, as we say, has patented a periscope camera design with two lenses. This does mean that the phones are going to have two sensors, such as the Galaxy S10 Plus or the Pixel 3 XL, to get a hardware portrait mode beyond software.

The second sensor, according to the Xiaomi patent, would be placed perpendicular to the main objective, and with this, Xiaomi could achieve something similar to what companies like Oppo and Huawei are achieving with their zoom cameras. Hence, we could see a Xiaomi phone with optical zoom on the selfie camera in the future.

Besides, mounting a periscope camera with two lenses will allow Xiaomi the possibility of maximizing the amount of light reaching the sensor, being able to mount larger sensors that receive more light from the main lens. With this, you can get from a better background blur to the arrival of more information to the front lens, which translates into better photographic quality.

The patent was requested on December 20 and has now been granted by the Intellectual Property Office of the State of China. Therefore taking into account how fast they design mobile in the company, it seems that sooner or later we will check if this technology reaches somewhere.
