The trial begins today, where Instagram is taking measures to boost the user’s self-esteem. Instagram is hiding the number of likes a post receives including six more countries – Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and Brazil.

Earlier, Instagram has been testing on hiding the number of likes, which means users will see the user name “and others” below posts, instead of the exact number, on their feed. Though Instagrammers can still view the number of likes, their own posts receive.

The Instagram Likes feature is launched in concern for the users so that they can contribute to low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy.

Because [they] want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get – Instagram

Instagram Likes on photos have been the concern for many young users hence resulting in teasing for those who get very few or even ending up buying likes to gain admiration. This new feature will hopefully create less pressure for getting hits on every photo.

We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love – Mia Garlick, Facebook Australia, and New Zealand director of policy

Earlier, Instagram has also taken measures to tackle online bullying. These have been creating immense pressure on the mental health of young people. A good initiative by Instagram, indeed!
