After the successful launch of Chandrayaan, the whole of India, rather the world, was looking forward to India’s second mission to Moon. The second rocket to Moon, called the Chandrayaan 2, was scheduled for liftoff on July 15, 2019, from Sriharikota. However, the launch of Chandrayaan 2 was called off due to some technical issues on ISRO’s part.
The launch was supposed to take place at 2:51 am. However, due to the issue in the GSLV MK-3 rocket, the launch was halted. The technical snag which prevented ISRO from launching the Chandrayaan occurred just an hour before its launch. Although, there has been no official statement m ISRO over the reasons of the delay or nature of the technical issue. Some of the ISRO staff on the condition of anonymity, have given the media their statement regarding the delay.
ISRO had been extra cautious on the launch, it was said that there was some kind of leak in the fuel tank which had to be mended before Chandrayaan could make its odyssey to Moon. It was not clear right away as to how much time it would take the scientists to fix the problem. It goes without mentioning that the date for the rescheduled launch had not been mentioned either. ISRO had just announced that the launch will not be put off altogether but would be rescheduled.
Just a week after their first attempt at liftoff, ISRO will again initiate the liftoff process of Chandrayaan 2.
