Best Movie Streaming Apps

With so many apps on offer, we found these to be the best alternative apps to stream movies after the popular MovieBox app for iOS and Android stopped working.

Amazon Prime Video:

Amazon’s popular video streaming service has just gotten bigger, with full Chromecast support finally added. With a huge choice of movies and TV shows on offer, you can also watch many Amazon exclusives, not shown anywhere else in high quality. A Prime subscription costs $12.99 a month or $119.99 a year and offers cloud storage, music streaming, HDR and 4K streaming and 2-day delivery on any Amazon purchase. And now you can add other services, such as HBO, so long as you are happy to pay the extra fees.

Kodi:

Last but not least is the incredibly popular Kodi. A legal app for media streaming, Kodi is an open-source media center where you can store your movie and music collection, streaming it when you want. That’s the legal side of it. If you want to stream other movies, documentaries, cartoons, TV Shows and more, you can do so by way of installing add-ons, which aren’t quite so legal. However, using a VPN will help. Both Kodi and all the add-ons are to watch free movies. You can download Kodi app from Emus4U App installer.

HBO Now:

HBO Now is the odd one out in the list, given that it is a single channel. However, there is no doubt about the popularity of the HBO channel, and the sheer range of content shown ensures that it has a large enough audience to warrant having a streaming app. For $14.99 a month though, you will want the free trial on offer to determine if it offers enough for you to pay out that amount. What you do get with a subscription is fully unlimited access to everything that HBO offers over three streams that run concurrently.

Netflix:

Without any doubt, Netflix is the number one movie streaming app in the world, available in pretty much every country. While each country shows different content, there is plenty to tempt any user with a diverse range to watch movies and TV series. Netflix offers support for Chromecast, Miracast, 4K, games consoles, smart TVs, Dolby Vision, and HDR10. Prices do vary from region to region but nowhere will pay more than $15.99 per month. Plus you get the option of an extra subscription to a DVD app that ships DVDs to you to watch and return.

YouTube:

The YouTube family of apps offer viewers a diverse range of content. The official YouTube app offers everything you find in the web app plus more, and YouTube Red takes it one step further, with original series and videos without the ads. YouTube Kids and YouTube Gaming join the group offering gamers and children their very own options. YouTube TV rounds things off nicely with access to live TV and more than 40 channels. Prices start at $9.99 although there is a free version that is supported by ads.

Tubi Tv:

One of the newest streaming apps, Tubi TV, is fast becoming one of the most popular apps for Android and iOS. Offering several genres to choose from, it doesn’t offer the biggest amount of content, but it does offer something to suit most tastes. Free to download and use, Tubi TV is a legal app but does not offer offline streaming, and you will need a free account to stream movies online.

Hulu:

Hulu is one of the most used of all the video streaming apps, offering a diverse range of content. There is a free trial of the standard Hulu content, and prices start at $5.99 a month. However, they also offer a Live TV option, with all the standard Hulu streaming content included, but that will cost $39.99 per month. You have over 50 channels to watch and, for an extra payment, you can have even more. Hulu also includes full Chromecast support.

There you have it, our top tips for the very best in movie streaming apps. Most require some form of subscription but are legal to use, and there should be something in this list that will suit all users.
