Blackmagic introduced next-generation handheld digital film cameras with a bunch load of new features. The new cameras are offering 4K or 6K models with a large 5-inch LCD screen, SD card, CFast media and, external USB‑C media disk recording, EF or MFT lens mounts.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K sports a 4/3 image sensor with 4096 x 2160 resolution and an MFT lens mount. Due to its size, it can be carried literally everywhere. The 6K camera, on the other hand, has a 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor and EF lens mount which gives the best bokeh effect.
The features available in this camera are the same ones found in professional expensive digital cameras. The camera is made from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite. The handgrip also is equipped with the controls for recording, ISO, WB and shutter angle.
The front and top of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features record start/stop and still photo buttons along with dedicated controls for iris, ISO, white balance and shutter speed. Both the 4K and the 6K models support the shoot up to 60 fps in full resolution or 120 fps windowed.
The camera also offers the option to choose from EF or MFT lenses. What it means is that this camera is compatible with a large number of lenses. Both the 4K and the 6K models have 13 stops of dynamic range making the captured details more vivid.
The camera offers ISO up to 25,600 with minimum noise in the captured images. The 6K model offers a 21.2 MP camera, and the 4K model offers an 8.8 MP camera. Blackmagic RAW is the most stunning thing about this camera as it captures and preserves the quality of the sensor data from the camera resulting in the highest quality image.
Using Blackmagic RAW photographers can change the temperature of a photo in post-production with DaVinci Resolve Studio which the customers will get for free with this camera. Blackmagic RAW also offers faithful color reproduction with precise exposure, saturation settings. The touchscreen on the back of the camera makes it easier to change settings or simply view the captured photos.
Blackmagic OS gives the photographer full control over advanced camera features such as on-screen focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings.
The Generation 4 Color Science uses a 12-bit gamma curve which will give a natural, film-like response to color adjustments in the post-production with DaVinci Resolve Studio. The camera also features an HDMI cable and a 3.5 mm audio input. The camera uses the 17 and 33 point 3D LUT files but also gives the photographer the option to use the built-in LUTs.
The USB-C port attached to the camera will ensure that it transfers files at the speed of 5Gb/s. If an external timecode generator is connected to the audio jack, it would automatically detect the timecode and lock the internal generator.
The DaVinci Resolve will synch all the shots from all cameras making it easier for the user to transfer photos. The Lp-E6 battery will ensure long-lasting battery life. Photographers can also add an optional Blackmagic Pocket Battery Grip which would let them use 2 batteries to extend the battery life.
