IFA 2019, one of the biggest consumer electronics and home appliances fair will kick start in Berlin, Germany on September 6, 2019. Big names in consumer electronics and mobile phones will attend the fair. The Korean electronics giant LG will also participate in the fair and is expected to unveil a number of new phone models. For example, there is an LG V60s and a G8x ThinQ; both are high-end smartphones. However, all are expecting LG to announce the two new budget /middle-class smartphones at the fair.

LG K series models

On August 16, 2019, LG Electronics submitted two trademark applications to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). This concerns the model names K40s and K50s. The applications are categorized as Class 9, with the description; ‘smartphones; mobile phones’.

Both trademarks have been filed by patent & law firm Mitscherlich from Munich, Germany. This company trades more often on behalf of LG Electronics, as earlier this year the company recorded the names, LG The Roll and LG Flex.

Last week these names were already registered in home country Korea, but now that the same model names have also been requested for Europe, it seems these devices will make their debut at IFA.

Probably it concerns two variants, the LG K40, and LG K50, both models were announced in February this year. The former can also be purchased in the Netherlands, so there is a real chance that LG will also release at least one of its new ‘s’ variants in our country.

LG K40 budget phone

The LG K40 is a budget phone with a 5.7-inches HD+ display. There is no notch present and has the 8-megapixel selfie camera. Besides, a single 16-megapixel camera has been placed on the rear. There is also a fingerprint scanner.

The device is powered by a 1.5 GHz octa-core Mediatek Helio P22 chipset with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage memory. The Android smartphone is also equipped with DTS: 3D Surround Sound. Furthermore, this mobile phone has a physical button to activate the Google Assistant, Google Lens is also available on this cheap smartphone. In the Netherlands, this device received a suggested retail price of € 180.

LG K50 cheap phone with dual camera

The LG K50 is just a little more advanced. This robust device is equipped with a 6.26-inch HD + screen and a drop-shaped notch that offers space for a 13-megapixel selfie camera. A dual-camera with 13 megapixel and 2-megapixel resolution is placed on the back. The device has a fingerprint sensor on the rear.

This smartphone is powered by a 2Ghz octa-core MediaTek processor with 3GB memory and 32GB storage memory. There is a 3,500 mAh battery built-in and the phone runs on Android 9 Pie. Although this device is not officially released in the Netherlands, it is available through the gray import for an almost comparable amount as the LG K40.

The LG G8s was released in July this year, as a cheaper alternative to the current top model, the LG G8 ThinQ. Whether the K40s and K50s also become a cheaper alternative to the already very affordable K40 and K50 is as yet unknown, but it seems likely. On the opening day of IFA, September 6, 2019, the LG press conference is scheduled, then the new models are expected.

Recently, LG has also submitted a series of trademark applications for an unannounced phone series, the M series. For this LG Electronics has registered the names M10, M20, M30, and M40. For the time being these trademarks have only been requested in Korea, we do not expect these devices to be returned to IFA 2019. The W-series was also introduced in India last month, consisting of budget telephones with a large battery. Perhaps we can expect some of these new models in the long term in Europe too.
