At the beginning of the iPhone presentation event, Apple has shown another of its great novelties for 2019, the Apple Watch Series 5. The fifth generation of the smartwatch (sixth if we have Series 1) comes with a continuous philosophy with last year, when the biggest leap from the original Apple Watch was presented five years ago.

That there are no changes as large as those brought by Apple Watch Series 4 does not mean that those that Apple has introduced in the Watch Series 5 are not. In fact, now the watch includes one of the most anticipated functions for years, the ‘Always-On’ screen, that is, always-on, which also promises a battery day, as before.

Apple also includes a compass in this fifth generation, which greatly helps with the location. For lovers of the most premium materials, the company now also offers a model made of titanium, a finish that debuted many years ago on the PowerBook G4.

An expected screen always on with a compass to indicate the path

The Apple Watch has always had an OLED screen, so that it was always on a function that could be expected, until today. To launch this feature, exclusive to this new Apple Watch Series 5, the company has included an ambient light sensor and display driver and an integrated power management circuit in the device.

In addition, thanks to the use of LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) technology, the display can range from 60 Hz to one, so you can save a lot of energy when you detect that the environment does not require too much brightness or an update frequency. Following directions on that screen will now be easier, thanks to the inclusion of a compass that can be integrated into GPS and sports applications.

The new Apple smartwatches will arrive in the US next September 20 and can be booked from today, September 10. Next, to the titanium model, which adds to the stainless steel and aluminum model, another new Apple Watch from Nike arrives in this generation, along with another from Hermes.

As for prices, the Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS only) without LTE, starts at $399, while the version with GPS and LTE will start at $499. The Apple Watch Series 3 will now start at $199.
