If you are planning to buy a new smartphone, you may want to wait a little longer. Know should know about the upcoming smartphones in 2020, like new models of Huawei, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Nokia or LG (among others) are expected to be announced in the next 12 months.

Two of the new trends are 5G connectivity and folding designs. It’s also not something you really need to worry about right now, since 5G is not yet available on all phone operators, and folding phones still seem too futuristic.

Today’s best phones combine the best performance with long battery life, high-resolution full-screen displays, excellent photographic capabilities (from a triple or even quad-lens assembly) and decent sound quality.

At this time, the preferred processor is the Snapdragon 855, while the Snapdragon 865 is expected for the first quarter of 2020. Apple, Huawei, and Samsung will continue to develop their own alternatives, but with similar levels of performance.

Android 10 Q and iOS 13 will go on sale in the coming months, so any new phone you buy at the end of 2009 or in 2020 should run one of these operating systems from the start.

Xiaomi Mi 10 – February 19, 2020

If it follows the same pattern as this year, Xiaomi’s new flagship will arrive in China a few days before its worldwide launch at the MWC on February 23, 2020 (TBC).

The Mi 10 will probably be priced below 500 euros, which makes it a fierce competition for the Galaxy S11 and the LG G9 that are also expected to be announced at the Barcelona event.

We can expect the Mi 10 to have a Snapdragon 865 processor, a Samsung 64Mp camera and MIUI 10. Other rumors at this stage should be taken with a pinch of salt, alluding to features such as a 5,000mAh battery, a massive update of the current 3,300mAh cell, and still a smaller 6.2-inch screen.

We are quite sure that the screen cut will disappear, but it has not yet been seen how Xiaomi will solve this. It is very possible that he opts for the route of the notches instead of the pop-up camera used in the Mi 9T.

Samsung Galaxy S11 – February 23, 2020

The Samsung Galaxy S11 almost certainly will also borrow some features of the Note 10, including its new Aura Glow, Aura Black and Aura White color options, 45W fast charging, and improved cameras.

Unfortunately, like that phone, you will probably also lose your headphone jack, the dedicated Bixby button, and the heart rate sensor. But there is still much to be happy about, although there is still a lot left for us to see the Galaxy S11 and that the rumors are early waiting for upcoming smartphones 2020. Unfortunately, like that phone, you will probably also lose your headphone jack, the dedicated Bixby button, and the heart rate sensor. But there is still much to be happy about, although there is still a lot left for us to see the Galaxy S11 and that the rumors are early.

Surely, the phone will not arrive until February 23, 2020 – or if that should be the case since almost certainly there will be Plus and 5G variants, although it is not clear if we are going to see an S11e.

The S11 will be one of the first to use the Snapdragon 865 in some markets. It will also supposedly include a major camera update (a 64Mp lens, maybe?) And a notch to accommodate the camera much smaller than the one we saw in Note 10.

LG G9 ThinQ – February 23, 2020

We don’t know much about the upcoming LG G9 ThinQ, except for the fact that it will be presented in February at the Barcelona MWC event.

Worriedly, LG told Android Authority at MWC this year that the 5G feature was not going to be present in the V Series, while the G Series would get stuck in the 4G. It is not a good omen for a high-end phone that already looked a bit dated with its thick notch on the screen, its dual-lens camera and its rear fingerprint sensor.

However, the LG G8 excels on its screen and audio, which we hope will reach the G9. This could be one of the only flagship phones left that includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, now that Samsung has removed it from its Note 10.

Huawei P40 – March 2020

If Huawei follows its usual strategy, we will see the Huawei upcoming P40, P40 Pro and a 5G variant smartphones in March 2020, one month after MWC in Barcelona. There is the talk of changing the name to P400, but in essence, we are talking about the successor of P30 (pictured).

Known for his photographic credentials, the Pro model might be receiving a fifth camera. The Penta-lens camera has not turned out so well for the Nokia 9, but Huawei has potential here we think. We hope to see an update of the Kirin 990, which we will have already tested on the Mate 30, and a redesigned screen with a perforated camera cutout.

iPhone 2020 – September 2020

Apple will bring three iPhones to the market in 2020 and they will all be equipped with a telephone module compatible with 5G networks. Returning to the subject is Ming-Chi Kuo, which reviews its previous predictions in light of recent developments.

The analyst had previously stated that only two of the iPhone 2020s would be equipped with 5G modules – specifically, those with 5.4 “and 6.7″ screens – while the third (6.1”) with more traditional 4G LTE module.

The acquisition of the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem division – the analyst adds – will allow Apple to have more resources to invest in the emerging market of new generation networks and especially in the realization of iPhones equipped with the 5G module.

However, it seems that Apple’s first 5G modem will arrive only in 2021 – so for the solutions proposed next year, the company led by Tim Cook will continue to rely on Qualcomm.

Then there are factors related to the competition with Android smartphones that would bring the Cupertino home to the choice of expanding the number of 5G models. The prices of Android 5G devices will drop up to $249-349 in the second half of 2020; these will be phones with support for 5G sub-6GHz connectivity and not even mmWave (millimeter wave), but end-users and telephone operators will still consider 5G a necessary feature.

In short, Apple could not offer the iPhone market at higher prices without 5G. According to the analyst, the three iPhone 2020s will support both sub-6GHz and mmWave frequencies to meet the requirements of the US market.

It is not clear, however, if Apple will also propose an additional 5G model compatible only with the first to keep the product price lower. These are two separate projects and it is not obvious that Apple will be able to finalize them within the next year.

In addition to 5G telephone connectivity, among the prominent features of Apple’s 2020 smartphone line should be OLED displays (in at least three models in the range) and with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, the 3D ToF sensor, and a smaller notch.
