Gmail app finally rolls out the official dark theme mode update for Android and iOS. This dark mode version is coming over app within the next two weeks or even longer.

The rumors had it that the Gmail app was showing traces of dark mode back in June. However, the theme was nowhere to be seen. Finally, Google made an announcement through their blog post on September 24, saying that they are further enhancing the Gmail experience on Android and iOS devices by introducing dark theme support.

The roll-out of a dark theme mode for Android and iOS has begun on September 24. However, the extended roll out for the Android and iOS devices will take potentially longer than 15 days for the dark theme to be visible.

The Gmail dark theme mode update will automatically respect the system settings in Android 10 and iOS and can be enabled within the respective updated Gmail app settings.

How to enable the Gmail dark theme feature

1. Settings > Theme > Dark.

2. Open Gmail and go to Settings.

3. Tap on the Theme option which is at the right top in the Settings menu.

4. Select the Dark theme option and voila!

This feature can be turned on on Android 10 and iOS 13 by activating the system-wide dark mode from the Settings apps on phones. This will automatically apply the dark theme in Gmail and a host of other compatible apps. But your Gmail app must be updated before enabling the feature.

When the Battery Saver is enabled on Pixel, Gmail will default to Dark theme automatically. Battery saver mode will apply the dark theme to save battery. However, you can access this feature if only it is available on your device. Gmail Dark theme feature is already available to all G Suite editions and we hope to see it on the other devices soon.
