Google has revealed the successors to its Pixel 3 and 3 XL devices in the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. But along with the announcement of its new successor the company has also declared it has decided to not make Pixel 4 available in India.

“We decided not to make Pixel 4 available in India,” a Google spokesperson said.

“Google has a wide range of products that we make available in different regions around the world. We determine availability based on a variety of factors, including local trends, and product features.”

Google’s Pixel devices feature a two-tone rear but that’s not the case for the new Pixel 4 handsets. The new devices remove the physical fingerprint sensor on the rear, switching to just face unlock and they also opt for a smooth rear with square camera housing in the top left corner.

The Google Pixel 4 has a 5.7-inch screen and the Pixel 4 XL has a 6.3-inch display for 2019. Both displays offer 90Hz refresh rates, like the OnePlus 7 Pro, offering a smooth and slick experience. Both offer an OLED display.

But why is India excluded from such handsets? It is speculated that the number of Pixel phones sold in India isn’t much and that Google couldn’t procure the necessary licenses as the 60GHz mmWave frequency band that Soli radar works on which is banned for public use.

This chip is important as it also works with a facial recognition system and the new phones don’t come with a fingerprint sensor. So, Google couldn’t just produce Pixel 4’s without the Soli radar. Also, where only 80,000 Pixel 2 phones were sold, it sought convenient for the company to not launch the device in India.

This basically confirms that we shouldn’t hope that the phone will be available in the near future. However, it also hints that the Pixel 3a successors will most likely make their way to India.
