Samsung Galaxy S10 was released in February this year along with the Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e. The Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ featured ultrasonic fingerprint for security purposes.

During the launch, the company claimed that they had moved the security from the back of the phone to the front for more convenience. However, recently the company informed the users that they are going to release a patch to fix the bug that lets any fingerprint to unlock the devices.

There were recent reports regarding the issue and many complained that a fingerprint recognition issue is affecting certain Galaxy devices. The company has acknowledged the issue in its October 18, 2019 blogpost.

But they have claimed that the phone can be unlocked with a 3D printed fingerprint if the user has an inexpensive screen protector. A Reuter report says that any “unofficial, scratched or dirty phone screen cover may cause the fingerprint sensor to malfunction“.

Addressing the issue, a Samsung spokesperson said:

“We are investigating this issue and will be deploying a software patch soon”.

The company suggested the users of Galaxy Note 10/10+ and S10/S10+/S10 5G to remove the cover, delete all previous fingerprints and newly register their fingerprints. They have also announced a new software patch to solve the bug issue.

The software will be available by earlier next week and till then Samsung has requested the users to refrain from using any kind of front cover on the device.

After the update, users are instructed to scan fingerprint in its entirety, so that all portions of the fingerprint, including the center and corners have been fully scanned. The company has also advised the users to replace the covers and use authentic Samsung products and accessories only.
