Companies are getting ready to thank the military on Monday, November 11, Veterans Day, for their service. Offerings range from free services to discounted times.
Most of the specials are for veterans and active-duty military and are for one person. And almost all require valid identification. There are likely to be other restrictions, so visit the websites and read the fine print before participating. And keep in mind that some locations may not participate.
On Veterans Day, the military that has served the US military in the war is honored. It is basically a show of respect towards the survivors. Every year Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11. The reason is that on November 11, 1918, at 11 in the morning the armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany in the First World War.
At the beginning it was called “Armistice Day” (the day of the armistice, the end of the war) and was dedicated only to veterans of World War I. The veterans of World War 2 and the Korean War were included, and a request was made to the congress to change the name from “armistice” to “veterans”. On June 1, 1954, the petition was approved and on November 11 of the same year, the first “Veterans Day” dedicated to all veterans of the US military was celebrated, regardless of when or where they had served.
On November 11 the national parade “Veterans Day Parade”, renamed “America’s Parade” is celebrated in New York. This parade has been held since 1929 and more than 20,000 people participate each year. First, they keep two minutes of silence and at 11 am the parade begins.
Now, Facebook has launched a platform for the military, veterans and their spouses. The initiative was launched with a partnership with SCORE and is aimed to boost the veterans’ online safety tips, resources for finding jobs and digital skills training.
Since 1964, SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” has helped more than 7.9 million aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners through counseling and business workshops. More than 10,500 volunteer business counselors in 389 chapters serve their communities through entrepreneur education dedicated to the formation, growth, and success of small businesses. The new content area offers valuable mentoring and resources to help the veterans.
