Hyundai Group has reportedly developed a one-of-its-kind active noise cancellation system called Road Active Noise Control (RANC) for electric vehicles that have been able to significantly reduce both in-cabin and outside noise inside the vehicle.

The RANC is significantly more effective than the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology that is currently in use in vehicles now, as it claims to analyze the sound of the motor inside the vehicle and on the road, and effectively produce a well-balanced ambiance inside the cabin.

This next-gen ANC has the ability to analyze multiple noise types in real type and counteract them through inverted soundwaves.

Hyundai’s new RANC system utilizes an acceleration sensor that detects vibrations generated by the moving vehicle, microphones that monitor the active noise cancellation stage and transmits the information back to the digital signal processor, after which a counter wave is emitted, all of which takes only 0.002 seconds.

The Hyundai noise control technology will be able to effectively block out the noise generated by tires and transmission systems. It can accurately detect, analyze and counteract noises affecting the driver, front passenger, and rear-seat occupants separately, reducing overall in-cabin noise by 3 decibels.

This is the result of six years of extensive research and hard work by Hyundai who collaborates with other organizations such as the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, WeAcom, BurnYoung and Harman to build such innovative technology.

Hyundai plans to debut its latest innovation in the upcoming Genesis luxury sedan.
