After Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe, eCommerce giant Amazon is joining the super app race via its payments platform – Amazon Pay. Amazon India is soon going to offer the facility to buy bus tickets, book hotel rooms or buy a train ticket from its platform.

The move will also make it compete with its arch-rival Flipkart on yet another front. The Walmart-controlled eCommerce marketplace also offers a suite of similar services on its web and mobile app. This move comes in at the time when the company is in the process of adding new services that customers can avail of within the app or from the website.

After capturing the market, firms are now eyeing selling non-product categories in order to increase the frequency of purchase on its platform. Flipkart had launched offerings such as flight, hotel and bus tickets last year in an attempt to bring more customers on its platform and with the hopes of these transactions forming a good chunk of its revenue in the coming years.

This strategy for Amazon is an attempt to incentivize consumers across metro and non-metro cities to transact more on the platform even when they are not buying any product. Another eCommerce company, Flipkart also offers flights and hotel bookings on its platform.

According to the sources, cited by the publication, Amazon is planning to offer more transaction-led incentives to its Prime users in India in order to boost its super app play on Amazon Pay. It may be noted that Prime users spend more on Amazon than non-Prime users.
