It seems like the end of 2019 has brought us some great news as Elon Musk releases the first simulated teaser of SpaceX’s Dragon, the first crewed flight of Falcon 9.
Musk allowed us to have a sneak peek into the world of Dragon and its crew with 2 minutes and 20 seconds long video. The CEO posted the video on December 30th on his official Twitter account with the following caption:
The first demonstration of Dragon was made under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program launched on March 2, 2019, at 2:49 a.m. The spacecraft successfully docked with the space station ahead of schedule at 6:02 a.m on March 3, 2019. As a result, Dragon became the first American spacecraft in history to autonomously dock with the International Space Station.
Thereafter, SpaceX and NASA had been planning to give Dragon its crew to fulfill its purpose of carrying humans to space. As the news got out, it created a huge ruckus among the people. The public response was positive and they were showing their interest looking forward to the launch. As soon as Musk posted an update with a simulated video of Dragon, tweets and retweets followed it up.
Following Musk’s tweet, one of the Twitter users inquired about the launch date. Musk replied saying that it will be ready in February, however, other processes will take a few months to complete.
Crew Dragon should be physically ready at the Cape in Feb, but completing all safety reviews will probably take a few more months.
About Dragon
Dragon is a free-flying spacecraft by SpaceX designed to deliver both cargo and people to orbiting destinations. It can carry up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit, and beyond. It has a pressurized capsule and its nose cone base contains Draco thrusters, which allow for orbital maneuvering.
Dragon has a diameter of 13 feet with a height of almost 26.7 feet. This giant could carry the weight of up to 6,000 kg to space.
SpaceX is yet to decide on an initial launch date for Dragon. We hope that we can soon see Dragon conquering the space next year with its crew. We still have to wait for a couple of months to see what SpaceX’s Dragon offers us in.
