Oppo Releases Ace2 and Joins the Wireless Fast Charging Brigade

In an online press conference held on April 13, 2020, Oppo announced the release of its Ace2 mobile phone. It is a follow-up to the Reno Ace. However, Oppo has decided to start fresh this time and dropped the name “Reno” from its Ace series. Officially Ace is an independent phone series now.

Reno Ace is known for having the fastest wired charging system in a shipping phone. Ace2 goes cable-free this time making it Oppo’s first wireless-charging enabled phone. Let’s take a look at the salient features of the phone.

Battery

Oppo Ace2 is powered by a 4000 mAh battery which incorporates a dual cell structure. The battery supports 65W super-fast wired- charging using the SuperVOOC 2.0 technology. Simultaneously, the phone also supports 40W wireless fast charging enabled by the AirVOOC technology. There is also 10W reverse wireless charging function but we don’t have more details on it as of now.

Hardware

Oppo Ace2 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. It comes in 8GB/12 GB RAM variants. The storage has an option of 128GB and 256GB. And the storage uses UFS 3.0 with Turbo Write thus promising higher write speeds.

Camera

Oppo Ace2 houses a 4 lens module. The main camera lens is a 48MP f/1.7. According to the specifications the main camera is capable of realizing an image of 100MP using the multi-frame difference algorithm. It is supported by an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide-angle lens with a 119 ° wide angle. The macro lens is a standard 2MP and the depth sensor is another 2MP lens. The front camera is a single-lens 16MP f/2/0 selfie lens.

Build

OPPO Ace2 display has a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen with 1080P resolution. It comes with the standard 90 Hz screen refresh rate. The phone is HDR 10 certified and also earned the Rhine Global Eye Protection certification. The specs say that the local brightness measures 1100 nit. Ace 2 supports 5G and runs on base of Android v10 with ColorOS 7.0 user interface. The device is thin and weighs only 185 grams.

Availability and Pricing

The phone is available in three color variants: Moon Rock Grey, Dream Purple, and Aurora Silver. There are three phone variants based on RAM and storage and each is priced differently.

  • OPPO Ace2 8GB/128GB model starts at 3999 yuan
  • The 8GB /256GB model costs 4399 yuan
  • And the 12GB /256GB variant costs 4599 yuan

Oppo announced that Ace2 will be officially launched on April 20 in China.
