Microsoft Azure has been providing cloud services for a decade. With its ever-expanding cloud services for the enterprise customers, the new Microsoft Azure Windows Virtual Desktop(WVD) is being considered quite a success.

One may ask, what is this Windows Virtual Desktop? It is nothing but a ‘comprehensive desktop and app virtualization service running in the cloud’ as the Microsoft Azure website says. Is the best thing happening for enterprise customers?

It provides a multi-session Windows 10 desktop with simplified management. It allows its users the best kind of experience with optimizations for Office 365 ProPlus and is capable of running support for Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environments.

This enables Windows office 10 productivity experience. It can run from Windows 7 and all the way to Windows 10. It looks and feels like any other application as we can copy and paste things between other applications.

Persistent storage was one issue that users were facing till this time and they often required one visual machine (VM) per user environment but not anymore. Here there are nonpersistent host pools. So there can be more than one user per VM or multi-user sessions as it is called. Hence it is less expensive too.

Windows 10 multi-session in Microsoft Virtual Desktop

Now we can deploy Windows 10 multi-session and have rich Office experience. So now our data, other apps and Office can be mobile with us. This technology was gotten from FSLogix technologies and then was integrated into WVD. Even if you have traveled halfway around the world, you have the same Windows experience on any different device

So the files which are available in the Drives can be loaded locally into the system and can be run faster than before. So a seamless experience can be witnessed using the WVD.

More importantly, this has a native client app for every major platform: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and HTML5 Client too.

There is another cool feature to this. You can download the Registration key option , it can allow to take an existing set of VM that might be running in Azure resource group and can add it to a host pool. By this you can extend the host pool capabilities by adding VMs. You can always know if the VMs are on or off or in drain mode.

In addition to this adding of VMs you can also deal with apps. For instance you can download apps and that too in a segregated way. So you may choose to download certain apps for certain VM and another set of apos for another VM.

So if you are an IT admin things must be already looking sorted for you. The Azure portal will allow you to have this rich experience to manage and deploy Windows Virtual Desktop with other Microsoft Azure services.
