Gamers used to fantasize about when it will be possible for them to enjoy high-end games with no software or costly hardware without experiencing lags on their phones, tablets, and laptops.

At that time, the gaming PC and console system used to be the only solution to accessing the top-notch blockbuster AAA games.

The gaming industry was worth almost half a trillion dollars in 2019 and this is only expected to increase moving forwards. However, not all video gamers seek the latest and greatest graphics and games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive prove this matter.

Despite becoming arguably the most popular PC gaming title in history, it’s also responsible for numerous browser-based CSGO coinflip sites, which offer the latest games you can play for skins and prizes.

As games continue to advance, it becomes necessary to update the gaming systems from time to time, so as to be able to deliver these games. Often the cost of doing this to these systems becomes far too expensive to players as a result.

Now, I had to sit down with some of my friends that play games, and some students from colleges in Indonesia and think of how to create a platform that will ensure cheaper gaming. The efforts led us to the creation of the Cloud-Based Remote Server technology.

The reason why we developed Skyegrid is simply that we wanted to create a full-fledged gaming ecosystem. That system was built on an online platform that everybody can afford, and which could help people to stream AAA games to PCs, laptops and mobile devices.

Added to the platform mentioned above, we went out to try and deliver very satisfying gaming content and easily accessible gaming information to assist in taking the industry to new heights.

The success of the Project Lies in the Right Cloud

To realize what we were looking for, a powerful cloud platform that could match a gaming PC or a console system in performance is needed. It must be one that will ensure the absence of latency and lags by delivering adequate computer performance to the users, to avoid constant disruption of play.

There is also the need for scalability. Because of this, we went into collaboration with many telecommunication firms in Indonesia, so that Skyegrid would be given some bundles in the mobile plans that these telecommunication service providers offer.

Immediately these collaborations are finalized, we will have the ability to handle the expected influx of people with mobile plans.

While investigating cloud platforms, we discovered that the best option is IBM, and that is because of the availability of the IBM Cloud, IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers, and Citrix Hypervisor. These solutions clearly have the potential to help us deliver gaming that is bereft of latency and lags and to make use of the bare metal servers that our software is built on.

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are also available on the IBM system to cap it all up. This will help us to deliver high-quality graphics that are needed for AAA gaming effectively.

Because Skyegrid is a new firm, they are qualified to go into the partnership with the IBM program. Through this program, we will be able to access the cloud offerings from IBM at a discounted price. When this happens, we can now move the savings to our players to make gaming very affordable for them. That’s how to deliver affordable gaming to all people.

A Strong Foundation for a Sky-High Future

Skyegrid has actually fulfilled its main vision. The system is compatible with many devices, including Linux, Windows, Mac, and Android operating systems.

From the time we launched the product in August 2018 till now, more than 9 million views have been recorded. We’ve also recorded up to 3,000 subscribers, and have been averaging about 16,000–18,000 visitors every day and about 500,000–550,00 every month.

Currently, we deliver 88 different games, up to 28 games more than our closest or fiercest competitor can deliver. Through this, we’ve attracted users from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the United States.

The future of gaming lies in the cloud system, and we are in pole position to deliver the best of that. Our major project now is how to increase our server’s capacity, so that more users and games of more complexities could be accepted. Indonesia alone has more than 41 million gamers, so our potential customer base is already looking very large.

However, we intend to cover more grounds and expand to other parts of the world with the help of global resources of the IBM Cloud.
