An introductory video of BMW’s next big thing, the BMW iX3 has been leaked. This car is supposed to enter full production in late summer, and will probably go on sale in 2020 only.

Changes in terms of design have been minimal, with a tweaked rear end minus the exhaust cutout, a pair of blanked off kidney grilles. However, the model will receive a deeper side skirt to mask off the underfloor battery pack. The model is also said to receive a set of aerodynamically efficient alloy wheels.

The BMW iX3 is an all-electric model based on an already existing model. Apart from that, the German car company has also registered trademarks for the names for the vehicles ranging from iX1 through to the iX9. What it means for the iX3 is that this model could be the first in a broad range of models of similarly designed all-electric BMW SUVs.

As for the features of the car, the new iX3 will be powered by BMW’s fifth-gen eDrive electric technology which merges the electric motor, transmission, and electronics into a single bolt-in whole.

The whole idea behind the new system was so that the new models get to have advanced packaging advantages along with coming out with support for larger, more power-dense battery packs.

The battery, as claimed by the company itself can go over 70kWh and the company’s latest electric motor is rated at 266bhp. If BMW decides to bless the iX3 with a dual-motor, the car’s maximum power output could go up to 532bhp.

The maximum range for the car goes around 273 miles which, although, better than most cars, is still 20 miles less than the Jaguar I-Pace. However, as mentioned by a source, as this model is yet to be put on the finals stages of the WLTP homologation, the range, in all probability, could drop a little.
