Anime is the name given to Japanese animations; manga refers to the 2D art. This Japanese art style is incredibly popular across the world and can be seen throughout popular games too. There are all kinds of anime-inspired media, including collectibles based on anime and manga characters.

The gaming industry is also filled with anime-style games, from popular visual novels to huge MMORPGs. This list narrows it down to the anime games, which also have an anime tv series, but there are also plenty of popular standalone games in an anime art-style too.  

1. A.O.T.2 Game [Attack on Titan 2] 

If you are a fan of the Attack on Titan series, then the games take you into the heart of the battle against Titans. This is an action-packed game full of as much gore as the series, but you play as an original character in the story.

There are also multiplayer features to this game, as well as the recent DLC release of Final Battle, adding additional content and more features to the game. If you haven’t watched the series, you should consider watching it first or even playing the first game. For fans of the series, this game is a must-play. 

2. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc 

This visual novel is the first in a series of games, which has also been turned into an anime series. The anime was very well received, and the games deserve attention too.

The unique mix of lighthearted humor alongside grim situations makes the story very interesting and gripping. This murder investigation takes place in a classroom of prodigies, as you search for clues and prepare for class trials.

3. Dragon Ball Fighter Z 

Dragon Ball Z first hit our televisions in the late 90s and early 2000s, as one of the earliest anime many people were introduced to in the U.S. It has still maintained its strong following and popularity and the games generate a lot of interest too.

Dragon Ball Fighter Z can be played across all platforms and has been highly praised as one of the best fighting games for 8th gen consoles. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was also very successful and is very popular in the Dragon Ball Z game franchise, so it is worth checking out both titles.

4. Love Live! School Idol Festival Rhythm Game

A great title for mobile gamers, the Love Live! The franchise is hugely popular in Japan and has seen a lot of success in the U.S too.

If you are a fan of the show, this game is filled with songs from the series to tap along to. It is a very addictive and cheerful game to play and you also get to enjoy reading the story with fully voiced chapters. 

5. Pokemon Go 

Pokemon is one of the biggest and most popular franchises, with games across many consoles both old gen and new. Pokemon Go takes gaming to a new realm, introducing AR or Augmented Reality Gaming to a wider audience.

Players across the world took to their phones to venture out into the world in search of Pokemon, with brands like Starbucks turning into PokeStops and cashing in on the advertising. This was a massively successful venture for Pokemon and any fan of Pokemon should play if they haven’t already. For fans of the more traditional games, Pokemon Sword and Shield are great choices too!
