Qualcomm released their new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 computer platform, the second generation of its performance platform for sleek Windows laptops, at the 2020 International Funkausstellung Berlin, Europe’s biggest tech show and exhibition.
Using a 5G Wifi 6 connectivity speed with a peak speed of 7.5 Gbps, it promises “enterprise-grade security”, incredible camera and audio quality, and long-lasting battery life. Previous Qualcomm platforms were solely dedicated to mobile devices. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx platform is the first of its kind dedicated to computers. Laptops and computers are the need of the hour with most people working from home.
Working remotely is a new reality,” Miguel Nunes, senior director of product management at Qualcomm states, “accelerating the need for always-on, always-connected PCs that are thin, light and truly mobile, equipped with blazing-fast 5G cellular and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and coupled with multi-day battery-life to boost productivity.
With improved audio and video capacities, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 will use the Qualcomm Aqstic Echo cancellation and noise suppression (ECNS) technology, enabling better quality video calls and presentations, especially in these times, where individuals work and study from home.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 also allows better quality webcams with 4K HDR support. It also supports Microsoft Core PC and Windows Hypervisor, thereby benefiting and increasing manageability for small establishments. The Acer Spin 7 is the first laptop to pair up with Qualcomm and get the Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G chip.
