Earlier, Microsoft had patented a next-gen Surface Pen for a user to add a quick drawing, or scribble, or make a signature as well as handwritten annotation ‘right unto the surface of a notebook’s palm rest area that would be wirelessly transferred into the document that they’re working on.’ This Surface pen has proved to be useful in functioning not only as a digital medium of facilitating inputs in via writing.

But processed other functions like capturing photos, and activating Cortana, and is used for drawing purposes. And now, it is trying to create a pen case that would help in covering the pen from any external friction.

Microsoft had been thoughtful about innovating and stylizing its products. We have seen its fruition in the Alcantara covers of the Surface Laptop keyboard, Surface Pro and Go Keyboards as well.

However, creating a fabric cover for a surface pen is astounding and very much a thoughtful approach not only as an attempt to make a unique, physical presentation of it in the domain of technology-market but also in the sense of securing a fragile and tiny yet an utmost element such as a surface pen.

Published in 2020, 3rd of September, Microsoft’s patent was approved and released which mentions the following:

“In one example, a textile covering for an electronic device comprises one or more structural fibers woven into a seamless tube, the seamless tube configured to encircle at least a portion of the electronic device. The textile covering also comprises of one or more heat-shrink fibers and / or one or more adhesive fibers woven into the seamless tube. The heat-shrink fibers shrink when the seamless tube is heated above a threshold temperature, thereby constricting the seamless tube around the electronic device. One or more adhesive fibers adhere the textile covering to the electronic device.”

Speaking on the importance of creating this fabric surface cover pen, the patent further continues:

“Some electronic devices may include a covering that provides a visually-appealing appearance and / or a pleasing tactile user interface. Providing a suitable textile covering for an electronic device that embodies these characteristics while also avoiding additional complexity and / or cost in corresponding manufacturing and assembly processes can prove challenging.”

For those who are willing to purchase this pen, the Surface Pen comes as a tool only while purchasing Microsoft Surface and is used to write and draw naturally, with precision ink on one at ease. It also comes with an eraser at the other end. The kit further provides a ‘medium tip for the familiarity of a no. 2 pencils’ as well as ‘a low-friction tip similar to a fine-point pen’ respectively. For the new addition with the sleeve, all one can do is but wait.
