Sony’s latest noise-cancelling headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM4, a month after its global launch, is now available in India too. The last headphone to come out of Sony’s arsenal was the WH-1000XM3 which came out almost two years ago.

The design and most of the specs that the new noise-cancelling headphones are quite similar to that of its predecessor. The Sony WH-1000XM4 comes equipped with the QN1 noise-cancelling processor which was also used in the Sony WH-1000XM3. Even the chip used in the new headphone is the same.

However, mentions Sony,

“We have used the same chip, the very powerful HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 which was used in WH-1000XM3. Thanks to the improvement in the algorithm, in WH-1000XM4, we are able to realize up to 20% better Noise Cancellation performance than WH-1000XM3.”

The outer part of the headphones come with gesture controls along with features such as adaptive sound controls, wear detection, and a claimed battery life of over 30 hours per charge with the active noise cancellation on. Sony Headphones Connect app that is available on both Android and iOS platforms, can be used to control and customize the Sony WH-1000XM4.

Through the app, the users can customize the noise cancellation, set up adaptive sound controls, and adjust other settings such as the equalizer and sound modes. Moreover, the headphone comes with the ability to connect to two source devices at the same time.

The headphones also support Sony’s own 360 Reality Audio format for spatial sound. The headphones are equipped with a unique feature called “speak-to-chat” which pauses music recognizing the user’s voice when it senses that the user is conversing.

According to an official statement issued by Sony, the company’s very own DSEE Extreme sound enhancement feature will be available on the 40mm hybrid drivers powered Sony WH-1000XM4. The headphones, however, do not come with Qualcomm aptX support.

Sony WH-1000XM4 is priced at INR. 29,990 which makes the headphones quite expensive for the Indian market, but Sony is determined that the sale would not be hampered since the demand for good quality headphones has gone up in recent times.
