The Chinese tech company, Xiaomi has launched its Mi Store on Wheels – a retail experience like never before. In order to reach “the heart of India”, in the most remote areas of rural India, Xiaomi has launched a mobile offline retail store in a pop-up form, all compressed inside a van.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, where most offline stores are closed, this move by Xiaomi will make sure that technology reaches the interiors of India, to customers at home.
A tweet dated 21st September 2020, by Manu Kumar Jain, the Global Vice President and Managing Director of Xiaomi’s India operations, revealed the announcement. In the tweet, he shared several photos of the mobile stores in action. The launch was cleverly announced with a caption that was a witty pun on the last lines of Robert Frost’s poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”.
The Mi Store on Wheels sells the latest smartphones, Smart TVs, Mi Box 4K, Mi TV Stick, Mi CCTV Cameras, Mi Sunglasses, chargers, and power banks. The project was completed within a short span of 40 days. The project will also take feedback from customers, who can request for any specific product to be put for sale.
Mi India COO Muralikrishnan B said in a prepared statement, “With this new initiative and having the largest exclusive single brand retail network, we are determined to reach the remotest of areas in the country and address the needs of customers, bringing the Mi Store experience to their neighbourhood.”
He further added that social distancing, wearing masks and other COVID protocols will be strictly followed by Mi Store on Wheels attendants.
