Unlike other companies, like Twitter, which instructed that the employees can work away from the office “forever”, Google, Since the onset of the Global Pandemic, is allowing its employees to work from home until July 21.

But according to a recent survey of employee office preferences, conducted by Google, 62% of employees working for Google have stated that they definitely want to come back to the office, after the current situation gets better, but not on a regular basis.

The coming up of this result has manipulated, Google is reshuffling its existing office models in order to substitute the grooving demand of the employees. Google, thus, is working to lengthen the long-term remote work option and is about to come up with a “hybrid” model. Sundar Pichai in an interview with Time Magazine on Wednesday has confirmed the fact.

Pichai in the interview said that he sees “the future as being more flexible” and mentions that the company “firmly believe that in-person, being together, having a sense of community is super important when you have to solve hard problems and create something new so we don’t see that changing. But we do think we need to create more flexibility and more hybrid models.”

Google, as reported by CNBC, has already started preparing since the pandemic has hit the world. Recently, it has focused on making changes to its internal communication forums. Although arrangements to satisfy employees’ needs to be started, the in-office offerings and perks like food, personal chefs can not be replaced and will be missed by the employees.

After focusing deeply on the survey report, it is observed that 10% of employees, which was earlier 20% in May, said that they will be happy to not come to the office at all in the future. On the other hand, 15% mentioned that they want to come to the office only on particular events, functions, and office “Adhoc”. The later group stated socializing and face time with colleagues as the reason behind the desire to come back to the office.

Pichai on Wednesday also said that:

It’s always made me wonder – when I see people commuting two hours and away from their family and friends on a Friday, you realize they can’t have plans,” hinting towards the long work commutes of employees of the Silicon Valley.

Keeping in mind the fact that Google has served to be a model for the Silicon Valley Workplace, Google is slowly unhiding details to help employees return back to office work. Pichai in the interview on Wednesday addressing the lengthy commute of Silicon Valley’s worker, further stated that “I think we could do better.”
