Instagram is celebrating its birthday with the launch of several new features, including a private “Stories Map.” It will give the users a trip down memory lane by showing the Stories they have shared over the last three years. Furthermore, there is also a selection of custom app icons for those who have been inspired to redesign their home screen.

The new addition, the Stories Map feature, introduces a private map and calendar of the Instagram Stories that a user has shared over the course of the last three years. It did come as a shock to a lot of users that Instagram did not permanently delete the stories that are supposed to vanish in 24-hours.

However, it would not be the first time that Instagram has pulled old Stories to build a new feature for the Gram. Instagram’s Story Highlights, for example, lets the users keep their favorite stories as highlights in their profiles. It was first introduced back in 2017. The user could decide to share, download, and save them to highlight the new Stories Map feature.

Apart from the introduction of the Story Map, Instagram is also rolling out two new features. To start the National Bullying Prevention Month, Instagram has taken the step to hide comments similar to others that have been reported.

However, this will not permanently delete the comments, but will still be visible under the label “View Hidden Comments”. This is very similar to Twitter’s ‘Hide Replies’ feature, but unlike Twitter, Instagram’s new feature attempts to automatically perform this function of hiding hurtful comments.

Instagram is also working to include an additional warning to people who have a history of posting offensive remarks on the platform. Instagram’s AI feature already gives this chance to the users to make changes to something hurtful they have posted online. Now the new feature can identify the repeated offenders and will suggest that they reflect on what they have posted under someone’s comment section.
