Samsung and MediaTek have formed a collaboration to come up with the world’s first Wi-Fi 6E supported smart TV, which will be supported by MediaTek MT7921AU chipset. Samsung 8K QLED Y21 will be the first among the 2021 Neo QLED TV flagship to sport the Wi-Fi 6E technology.

The 2021 Neo QLED flagship TVs are the first to get the Wi-Fi Alliance certification (WFA). The new Wi-Fi 6E technology uses the 6GHz frequency in combination with the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. This will enable the TV to use uncongested bandwidth in the 6GHz spectrum in addition to the previous Wi-Fi generation’s advantages.

Jerry Wu, MediaTek Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Devices Business Group stated, “Our collaboration with Samsung has been instrumental in bringing consumers the latest smart TV technology to support these uses and beyond. With our advanced connectivity technologies – including WiFi-6 support – integrated into Samsung’s 8K TVs, we’re driving the premium smart TV segment forward globally”.

The 8K QLED TV is also powered by MediaTek’s MT7921AU chipset to support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 from a single and highly integrated platform.

About Wi-Fi 6E

The Wi-Fi 6E is the next generation successor of Wi-Fi 6. The ‘E’ in Wi-Fi 6E stands for ‘extended’; thus, it automatically indicates that the Wi-Fi 6E also operates on the 6GHz band besides using the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio bands.

This newest generation of Wi-Fi helps in minimizing network congestion and has more wireless bands for operating on the 6GHz frequency that ranges from 5.925GHz to 7.125GHz. Thus it processes faster multi-gigabit data, enables low latency and provides reliable and secure connectivity.

According to Jerry Wu, “Consumers depend on fast, reliable connectivity, whether they are using their TV for streaming, gaming or following along with workouts.” Combining with the Wi-Fi 6E support and MediaTek MT7921AU chipset, Samsung 8K QLED Y21 will surely live up to the user’s expectations and deliver faster speed, seamless connectivity for AR/VR, 8K streaming, and an advanced viewing experience.
