Tesla’s Model S Plaid, which is expected to be the fastest car in the world has officially launched in the US. Tesla CEO Elon Musk himself unveiled the car at an event at Tesla’s Fremont facility in California. The launch of the car was supposed to take place on June 3, but due to some supply issues on the company’s part, the launch was shifted to June 11.

The Model S Plaid comes with 1020 horsepower, which can go from 0 mph to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds. Musk has claimed that this car is faster than a Porsche and whereas at the same time, safer than a Volvo. The car can achieve a top speed of 200 mph. However, this speed could only be achieved with the help of proper wheels and tires. The wheels on the car come with standard 19-inch wheels, but the customers can choose to customize it to include 21-inch wheels as well. However, this could also mean that the car’s optimum range of 627 km could also be brought down with the increase of the wheel size.

Model S Plaid can add up to 187 miles in just 15 minutes on Superchargers. Musk has also revealed that the company has added a total of 25000 Supercharger stations all through the world which will immensely help its customers worldwide.

Tesla Model S Plaid has been launched at the price of USD 129,990 which is approximately INR 95 lakhs. Before the event, the expected price of the car was set at USD 119,990, but the company hiked its price just before the event.

The prices for other models of Tesla cars have also been hiked. Now that the company has claimed that the Model S Plaid is faster than a Porsche, Tesla will directly take on rivals such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Lucid Motors in the luxury electric vehicle market.
