South Korean telecom operator LG U+ (LG Uplus) said on Thursday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Japanese mobile operator KDDI. As per their new agreement, both the companies will take a step forward by jointly exploring the development of 5G technology. Both the companies are hopeful, therefore, that their new initiative will not only make the existing 5G technology flourish but will also help them to prepare the future for the imminent arrival of the 6G technology.

The 5G technology market is becoming increasingly competitive with new companies and countries taking part in the race to develop and perfect the 5G technology. A number of companies have also started similar cooperative ventures so as to give their research on 5G technology a push. The latest company to join the bandwagon is the South Korean tech giant LG. LG has pioneered in many innovations, and partaking in the ongoing development of the 5G technology is not any different.

Although both the companies have not made public the minute details of their agreed-upon terms and conditions, they have made public a single term of this initiative which is supposed to be the core of this agreement. Under the agreement, both the companies will share their network technology and solutions in 5G to find more applications of the latest generation network, LG Uplus said in a statement.

The South Korean telecom operator has recently doubled its efforts to develop new services using the high-speed and low-latency network, including remotely operating yard cranes at container terminals. Both LG and KDDI will jointly develop 6G technology while also working towards establishing international standards for the next generation network.

This is not the first venture that LG and KDDI have taken together, rather this new agreement deepens the ties between the two companies, who had started their partnerships overextended reality technology and smart drones since 2015.
