Google Discover Adds ‘related Keywords’ Feature for Its Articles

Google rebranded the Google Feed as Google Discover back in 2018 with the goal to “help you uncover fresh and interesting content about things that matter to you”. Over the years, it has undergone very few subtle changes; now that Android 12 demands a “more streamlined” redesign, Google Discover will undergo change, or rather it will introduce a new feature within its design. Apparently, Google Discover is testing a new feature that will show an article’s related keywords.

The newly added keywords of any article would appear between the headline and the bottom row, which usually comes with the publication name, publish time, and other actions. The testing has shown that the articles will be accompanied by a maximum of three keywords, including on AMP/Web Stories and YouTube videos. This move comes after Google decided to remove content descriptions so that anyone interested in the article would have to rely on the title and the cover image.

Tapping on any one of the keywords will take the user to a feed of other articles with that same keyword. It should be noted here that the keywords are assigned by Google Discover itself. This will make the user’s job easier to find similar articles on Google without having to do a manual search on their own.

Additionally, the overflow menu will also offer the users the option to mark “Not interested” in a topic, if they feel the need to do so. Before, the users could only get one option which was never sufficient. This new feature will ensure that the user gets access to articles that might interest them.

However, this is not the first time that keywords appeared for Google Discover articles. It made its first appearance back in January but it was not widely launched back then. Meanwhile, this test is currently limited to the latest beta version (12.28) of the Google app for Android.
