Threads is an app by Instagram that allows users to keep in touch with their close friends. Using the app the users can quickly share photos, videos, statuses, and stories with the friends added to a Close friend list on Instagram. The app only allows the users to share a story only with the people on the Close Friends list.

The last time Instagram added a new feature to it was in October 2020 which brought a major change to the app: the update let users message any Instagram user. But on November 10, 2021, a user on Twitter revealed that Threads for Instagram will no longer be available starting in December 2021.

The official Instagram notification reads, “Starting in December 2021, the Threads app will no longer be available. You can go to Instagram to see all of your messages and do things like add captions to your videos. Thank you for using Threads!”

Although Instagram is an extremely popular app, the same cannot be said about the Threads app. Some 220,000 people use the Threads app which accounts for less than 0.1% of Instagram’s monthly active users. It is not surprising therefore that Instagram chose to close the app. Also, the fact that the users could do everything that Threads offers in the main Instagram app, only made the use of Threads app redundant.

Apart from shutting down one of its apps, Instagram is also bringing a new feature to the core app. The same source announced on Twitter that Instagram is working on an option that lets users choose whether to allow other people to embed their Instagram feed on other websites.

The embedding of the feed on websites previously was controlled by the user, in the sense that the users could choose to embed their own profiles on other apps, but the new feature will allow other people to do that,  that is only if the user allows it.
