Beijing Winter Olympics: China Moves to Guarantee Network Security

The opening ceremony of the world-famous Beijing Winter Olympics was held on the 4th of February amidst intensive IT security. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology successfully achieved security for its information communication, radio, and network channels.

While giving his introduction during the opening ceremony, Gongxin Weibo explained that they orderly operated all implicated radio frequency units towards tightened security. Moreover, he highlighted that over 48,000 sets of radio equipment were in good shape at the inception of the sports festival.

Towards zero vulnerability in China

“Zero interference, zero error, and zero defect” in radio security is the mantra of the Ministry throughout the Beijing Winter Olympics. Different teams from different aspects of the ICT sector reportedly pooled human intelligence and material resources towards the goal.

While the guarantee season lasts, the Ministry of Network Security Emergency Command Center set up a security team, including China Satcom, China Unicom, and China Mobile. Other security team members include the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Internet Network Information Center, and the Beijing-Hebei Communication Administration. According to the organizers, this arrangement would ensure 24/7 on-duty security personnel catering for emergency response and other security operations.

Speaking further during the Opening Ceremony, Weibo announced that the security measures have and will continue to strengthen the monitoring, research, and analysis of data security risks. While that is happening, the security team will continue verifying and disposing of fraudulent Internet accounts and phone numbers throughout the guarantee period.
