Apple is reportedly no longer planning to release an in-display fingerprint scanner for its mobile devices. The American tech manufacturer had reportedly spent several years working on this task. However, Apple ceased working on the under-screen project, maintaining its plans to push out the under-screen Face ID recognition system in subsequent iPhone devices.

iPhone users received a new Face ID recognition system version when its producers launched iOS 15.4. The latest version of the identification program reportedly identifies its owners even while having a mask or a pair of spectacles over their faces.

Apple’s next agenda would surround placing Face ID sensors below the screen in iPhones. Although, the chances are slim that the soon-to-be-released iPhone 14 would include the sub-screen face ID recognition system.

  • Previous Rumors on iPhone’s Recognition System Plans

Last September, Ming-Chi Kuo, a reputable tech news analyst, announced that Apple would launch at least another new device with a fingerprint scanner below the screen in late 2023.

Moreover, earlier in January, Ross Young, a display industry consultant, had predicted that pill-shaped and hole-punch cutouts would replace the notch in iPhone 14 Pro devices. Young also added in his projections that users won’t find any iPhone device with a fully under-the-display Face ID until next year, at the earliest.

According to news from Bloomberg analysts, Apple had reportedly tried an “internal” fingerprint scanner beneath the screen for some iPhone 13 devices. But Apple later chose not to proceed with its plans.
At the time of this reporting, iPhone 15 Pro could reportedly be Apple’s premier mobile phone without holes and cutouts in it.

Additionally, there are suggestions that the incoming iPhone 15 Pro would include a front camera below the screen’s surface and an under-screen Face ID recognition method.

This latest report implies that Apple will no longer release a device with double biometric identification systems. From all indications, expectations are that Apple will release a device with a face ID beneath the screen late next year.
