For over a year now, the American instant messaging service, WhatsApp has been reportedly working on its platform to expand its multi-device to support Apple’s iPads and all tablets running on Android.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, one of the most reliable sources on WhatsApp pointed out that the social media platform is still working on the new features and will soon be released to provide users with early access to try a new version of the messaging app.
With the upcoming multi-device 2.0 features, users will be able to link an additional mobile phone and tablet via WhatsApp for iPad or Android tablet to the same WhatsApp account when released.
Essentially, the new feature aims at providing an option for users to use the same WhatsApp account for web, desktop and Facebook Portal. Here, the Portal is a smart display that is primarily used to make video calls using the built-in video calling feature of Facebook Messenger.
Another exciting feature of the upcoming multi-device 2.0 is that users will be able to use WhatsApp on their phone and up to four other non-phone devices simultaneously, even if their phone runs out of battery power.
It should be noted that presently, users can use WhatsApp on a personal computer if their phone is always connected to the internet, by scanning a rapid response (QR) code connecting users’ phones to their computers. However, if the phone’s internet connection is lost or the device’s battery runs out, one will lose access to WhatsApp on their PC.
Therefore, with the new multi-device feature, the linked devices will continue to work even if the main phone device loses power or network connectivity.
Recall that earlier this month we reported that the American instant messaging service is planning to roll out a new program called WhatsApp Premium which allows users to link up to ten devices on the same WhatsApp account for business users.
In recent times, the platform has been broadening its app with fascinating features too to compete with its competitors. However, as it stands now, the platform has not fixed an official releasing date yet, we promised to update you as soon as the release date is made official.
