In today’s System Health Series post, Riot Games discussed the Valorant map diversity and highlighted advancements to the map repetition mechanism in the game over the past couple of years. Because the game was first launched only with four maps and without any map choice option, several players were irritated by the map drought they were forced to endure.

Previously, one of the most important issues faced by the Valorant gamers was map picking, as they were notably getting the same map multiple times in succession. The Valorant Systems Health series has covered a wide range of topics including the present iteration indicates lacking map diversity that could very well be fixed permanently.

When the game first came out, map selection was purely unpredictable. The matchmaking could select any of the available maps at random when ten participants entered a match.  Irrespective of whether a player has previously played the map, all maps had the very same probability of being picked (25 percent for each). With only four maps to select from, gamers were forced to play sequential maps rather frequently.

Riot identified several occurrences wherein gamers were repeatedly encountering the same maps utilizing information recorded from players so over the past two years. The developer tweaked map selection frequencies until Valorant map diversity in Patch 4.04, whenever a new mechanism was adopted. Riot felt certain that by implementing this technique, the number of teams who viewed having a similar map two or maybe more times in succession has been reduced.

The number of gamers who have seen the same map three times in a row has reduced to 0.06 percent. Furthermore, throughout the week that we examined in the Competitive queue, precisely 8 of the millions of players have seen the same map four times in quick succession. Two of the eight are serial line imparts who shunned certain maps, which is a fun tidbit. No player has ever seen the same map five times in a row. Lastly, they stated that they will continue to receive input from players and seek to enhance the experience.
