As scheduled, Xiaomi’s launch event has begun where its next-generation smartphone – Xiaomi 12S series with the new Leica-branded camera will be showcased along with the Xiaomi Band 7 Pro and Xiaomi Band 7.
The event kicked off at 7 PM Beijing time (GMT+8), 1 PM CET, Noon BST, 7 AM EST, and 4 AM PST. The launch event is streamed live globally in Chinese and also translated into English. As the event proceeds, we see the appearance of the Xiaomi 12S series. The smartphones come in three series Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, and 12S Ultra.
Lei Jun Remarks
Speaking at the event, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun begins with the collaboration with Leica camera. According to him, mobile brands, like OnePlus, Oppo, and even Vivo, have alliances with other camera businesses. Oppo and OnePlus have partnered with Hasselblad. vivo has a partnership with Carl Zeiss. Therefore, Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica-camera has made them produce the best mobile phone cameras in the world.
In addition, Jun further said that there have been claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has considerable heating difficulties, particularly when performing heavy-duty tasks like gaming, thus, Xiaomi has upgraded its systems to address the overheating issue.
Xiaomi 12S Specifications
As per the earlier reports, Xiaomi 12S series comes with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset as was expected. This version improves on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 model. The processor powers both the Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro.
The Xiaomi 12S is positioned as a competitor to the iPhone 13. This model sports a 6.28-inch AMOLED display. The refresh rate of the display is 120 Hz. The phone is available in black, purple, green, and white. It includes a 4500 mAh battery and 67W wired charging.
Additionally, the Xiaomi 12S has a 50MP camera with a Sony IMX707 sensor. There is a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera as well as a macro camera. Xiaomi claims that the improved Sony IMX707 is used across the 12S series.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra Camera setup
All eyes will be on the camera of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. And based on the photographs, that camera module will be difficult to ignore. Xiaomi has a one-inch sensor.
Xiaomi and Sony have collaborated to create a new product named the Sony IM989. The sensor measures one inch in diameter, which is pretty large for a smartphone like the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
As per previous reports, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s camera setup will comprise a 50MP main camera, a 48MP periscope camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, and a time of flight 3D sensor. This is not the same as the existing Xiaomi 12 Pro, which has all 50 MP cameras. Xiaomi is anticipated to adopt a similar 50MP+50MP+50MP camera configuration on the 12S Pro, though the sensors may differ.
Xiaomi Band 7 Pro and Book Pro 2022
Ahead of this launch event, the popular reliable tipster has shared images of the duo brand. According to him, the new brands will be announced along with the Xiaomi 12 Series.
The Mi Band 7 Pro is more of a smartwatch than a fitness tracker. Unlike Xiaomi’s Band 7, the Pro version is more garden-fresh, with a glistening case that is expected to be manufactured with great care from aluminum and a 14-inch display with 4K quality.
